Partial Dentures

When you are missing a number of teeth, either in one area or in a number of areas in the upper or lower jaw, a dental bridge may not function well and our doctors may recommend replacement with a removable partial denture.

A partial denture consists of natural-looking replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored acrylic base. A metal framework gives strength to the appliance and helps to maintain its proper shape.

Your partial denture is held in place by small clasps at either side which attach to the natural tooth at each end of the denture. The clasps may be made of metal or may use precision attachments which are highly aesthetic and nearly invisible. Crowns may be required on your natural teeth to improve the fit of your partial denture.

The partial denture is not permanently attached and it is important that you remove it each time you brush and floss to clean it and to carefully clean the gums in the area of the missing teeth and the natural teeth to which the appliance is attached.

Our doctors will carefully take impressions of your gums and remaining teeth in the area where the partial denture will be placed in order to produce an appliance that fits well and is comfortable to wear. After you receive your partial denture, you will return to our office for follow-up visits so that the doctor can check on proper fit, answer any questions that may develop as you get used to the denture and make any adjustments necessary to improve the fit and function of the appliance.

It's very important that you follow excellent home oral care to keep your partial denture and the teeth and gums in the area of the appliance clean and healthy. You'll need to remove it each time you brush and floss to clean it properly and carefully clean your gums and remaining teeth in the area of the denture. The doctor and hygienist will instruct you on proper care of your partial denture and on the home oral hygiene you should follow in order to maintain a healthy smile after receiving your appliance.

Making good oral home care a regular habit along with regularly scheduled professional oral hygiene visits in our office will allow you to benefit from the use of your partial denture for many years.

With your partial denture, your smile will look natural, the correct position of your remaining teeth will be maintained, and your oral and overall health will be enhanced.
